I love making sprites and art assets for games. Even if the games rarely get finished, it's still fun to create ideas. Once in a while we do finish a game, like StarFrog, Mermaid Shooter (name pending lol) or Cake Eater, and others. Anyway, here are some sprites I made for various game ideas whether they were worked on or not. Feel free to use the assets or even the ideas, but please let me know if you do because I'd like to see your game!! (Throw a credit my way if you can manage it ^_~) BTW, many of these will ultimately end up on the Adoptable pages for you, so please go search through there if you want more!!

MEDICAL DEFENSE GAME

(Status: Never made) The idea of this game is very simple: you are basically watching over flesh/tissue and if it gets an illness then you have to use the appropriate item to counteract it and bring back homeostasis. Things that would fluctuate that you must deal with could include: Viral load, bacterial load, white blood cell count, preventing necrosis (dying tissue), and so on. Depending on what visual queue the tissue gives you, you must quickly select the correct counter measure. It's basically like a faster paced tamagotchi. The game could start with just one or two medicines and a small square of tissue, but could build to a larger grid with more medicine interventions. Perhaps there could even be a shop system that allows you to do things like cure multiple tissue blocks with just 1 administration, or reduce cool-down times on medicine. There could even be different modes where some tissue blocks are more susceptible to certain illnesses, so you could focus on powering up that type of counter measure in the shop to get the longest "healthy time" possible. What's extra weird on this one, is I made it before I even thought about becoming a nurse xux; I guess it was always within me.

MERMAID SHOOTER

MERMAID SHOOTER (name pending) CLICK HERE to download a rough/barely working version! - a few levels created, not finished. Demo includes mini game concept and overworld map concept.
This game was a side scrolling shooter that Charles and I were working on for a while actually. I always loved the NES Little Mermaid game, so controlling a mermaid character in this style was definitely inspired by that. Floating sea creatures leant themselves perfectly to the "flying ship" style enemies typically found in shooter games like this. I love both designs of the mermaid, but I only recall play testing with the longer mermaid. Her horizontal length allowed for you to see your fish friend power ups that ALSO shot bubble bullets out. It was a nice looking effect. We had plans for coral reef stage, ice level, underwater volcano stage (cause you just gotta have a fire level even if your game is underwater, right?), sunken ship stage (lots of treasure chests and maybe some pirate skeletons or something?), and a "deepest depths" stage where the enemies were all bioluminescing. If I can get the first level from Charles I'll try to link to a browser verion or a download of it for you.

sketchestentacoolino <~ THIS FREAKING TENTACLE ANIMATION took me forever XD I drew a sketch of the movement first frame by frame, then made it into more pixely style, then had to touch up each frame so the pixels didnt look jank...I'm used to working on SO MUCH smaller of a scale, but it was worth it. Scale....fish pun? intentional? Nope =0= (It was wort it because the octopus boss was honestly pretty dang cool.)

CAKE EATER

(Status: finished! CLICK TO PLAY IN-BROWSER!) Cake Eater was a game that proved even the most simple game idea can keep getting more and more complex if you let it. The game was to simply open the "Caek Mart" guy's mouth so he would eat cakes instead of random trash that showed up on the conveyer belt (btw he just snuck into the factory, hence is janky mispelling on his apron...). What could possibly go wrong with such a simple concept? Well, when different people play tested it we all had issues with the timing of the mouth open/close mechanic. Sometimes the game felt too simple and we added things like background characters blocking parts of the conveyer, or the lights going dark suddenly. I don't believe the game had a shop or anything involved like that, it was just....see how long you can eat cakes and not other stuff. The coding and art still took us weeks between school and work though, but it was definitely a fun process. I'll post a link to the game if I'm able to. FUN SECRET FACT: The two human cake workers are based on Charles and myself ;) The "box boy" is based on our room-mate-at-the-time Taylor. I actually like the style I did for the little peoples, as I don't normally do illustration style art for games.

STAR FROG

(Status: finished! Download TBA. It was in the app store for a while but got taken down due to policy changes we didn't have time to keep up with.)
Charles and I decided to be SUPER OFFICIAL and make a name for our little game making hobby group...so after a few iterations we chose StarFrog. It just sounded cute, and also I'm pretty sure I was a frog in a past life. More on that later. Anyway, we made a game based on this name as well. The game involves a frog that jumps on stars and goes higher and higher into space ^O^ I've actually seen other phone games do similar things after we worked on this one. We may have been inspired by that dolphin jump game where you keep getting higher until you reach outer space and fly by different planets. This game allowed you to buy upgrades and skins for your character, including aliens O: It also had original music created by Charles's friend. When you visited a planet, it would get logged in a sort of planet-dex that you could access on the main menu.

DICE ROLLER

(Status: finished!) This app was made so we could roll many 6 sided dice at once. It really isn't a game, just a useful program. It also had ways to change the background and dice color, and you could even customize how long the dice roll for before they stop and how chaotic their overall movements were. It even had a simple coin flip mechanic. The mascot was Dice-Kun, who also made an appearance in StarFrog as an unlockable character!! Charles considers this his "biggest failure" and he "hates it so much" but I really like how the dice move around :(

SCIENTIST PLATFORMER

(Status: never made) Me and a friend back in the day came up with this platforming idea where a guy travels around using one of those sticky hand toys. I think I just went with the "scientist shrunk down to mini size" idea and made a bunch of oversized items you might find on a desk or in a study room. Nothing ever came of this game, but I like some of the art I did for it.

VIRTUAL PET SITE

(Status: attempted, not finished) I always wanted to have a virtual pet site with original pets on it, like NeoPets or many of the other clones. I followed a tutorial on how to basically get a site set up, and I played with it for a bit, but ultimately it was beyond my scope work-wise. I still like some of the illustrated art that came from it though! I spent way too much time making all these.

WISHING WELL

(Status: idea never fleshed out lol) So the story on this game is that one guy in our group had an idea for a wishing well game, where NPCs would come up to you (You, being a god of a wishing well) and the characters would ask for things. You could grant their wishes or not, or maybe other stuff could happen too....but the idea just wasn't fleshed out enough. Maybe we never really understood what the end goal was. Or, coding all those different path ways of events proved too daunting of a task for our coders. Maybe the idea sounded cool to the person who made it, but ultimately since they couldn't communicate how it was a "game" it was just left behind. NEEDLESS TO SAY I still made art, because of course I freaking did.

RPG PINBALL/BREAKOUT

(Status: discussed, never made) Charles wanted to make an RPG style Pinball or Breakout style game, but he said "Yeah I just couldn't figure out how to uh...get the mechanics to work. Especially for pinball." I was really into the idea so I ended up making quite a few art assets for it just in case he ever figured it out. I especially love the sword bumper and the skeleton monsters. We ended up finding a game called "Wizorbs" that was released for PC in a HumbleBundle set. The graphics looked so good, and was pretty much what I would've gone for as well. So yeah, that also kind of de-motivated us. From there, a game called "World Flipper" came out, and we just said "OK this concept is done already." Anyway, ENJOY.

MAGICAL WITCH VIRTUAL PET

(Status: I still honestly want to make this, because I love virtual pets and tamagotchis ;__;) I especially love the growth-chart and some of the creature designs. I hope you do too.
There is supposed to be a crafting system in this tamagotchi game where you can craft new items from things you get from mini games. Some of the items would change the course of your pets evolution.

growthchartDo you recognize the flying eye-bat below? I actually created it. You see it all over the internet nowadays, and some people even put it on fabric designs and sell items using it XD I wasn't the first person to make an eye with bat wings or anything, but it's funny how much you see this specific one used. Poppy even used it in one of her music videos that since has been taken down along with other stolen pixel art. Short story there as well, a few years ago a bunch of fans of Poppy reached out to me on deviant art and actually pitched in to compensate me monitarily for the image being used without permission. I thought it was really sweet of them. I do like some of her songs, I just wish she had asked lol I consider it "an image for the internet" now, like most of this site tbh.

KITSUNE/FOX PLATFORMER

(Status: Finished!) This game was only meant to be one level and a boss, which it was. It was pretty janky, but it was fun to make at a fast-pace. Me and the one coder who helped me make it tried to create it quickly so we could surprise the group with it. I even attempted making music in a chip-tune program which was lack luster, but a fun learning experience. The fox shot out little shuri-ken for his attack, and he could climb up the vines that grew from the dirt platforms. The bunny was the "princess" the fox needed to save ;)

NEKOPAN

(Status: One concept screen sort of made CLICK TO DOWNLOAD) This was pretty much a joke idea game where you control a neko (cat) in a bread loaf. Its majestic body was to float around the screen with slices waving. When you lose health, you lose a body-slice. All enemies were also cats and breads or confectionaries in various states.
